Robert U’s Dream

Robert grew up in rural Victoria and grew to love the CFA and fire engines. Roberts’s sister was a member of the local CFA and this fuelled Roberts passion to be involved in some way as well.  Fast forward, Robert was living in a disability supported accommodation home in outer Melbourne when Karen was facilitating a formal person centred planning meeting with and for Robert. Robert and everyone passionately informed he wanted to be part of the CFA.  This became the DREAM to be achieved.

With the support of the Epping CFA leadership and Karen’s husband Terry, Robert’s journey with the CFA became a reality.  Karen facilitated the engagement while Terry became the Robert’s mentor. On pre-agreed days Karen would pick up Robert and bring him to the Epping CFA where Terry would work with Robert to develop his knowledge and skills about the fire trucks and how to use some of the equipment.  They would do routine cleaning of the fire trucks and go for little rides around the station.
